"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." - Harriet Tubman

Mr Anthony Fok is the sole tutor and founder of JC Economics Education Centre, which has the goal of aiding students to do well in the subject. Mr Anthony Fok has devoted his time to helping students at JC Economics Education Centre excel, by constantly attending to their queries and devising new methods to help them learn. Having taught students in MOE schools and tuition classes for more than 15 years, he is experienced and understands the needs of his pupils. He is there every step of the way, equipping students with any skills they lack in order to secure a good grade for the subject. Ultimately, the aim is to help students score their distinctions. They include problem solving, analytical and writing skills, all crucial to doing well in the subject.

Crucially, Mr Anthony Fok helps students see that Economics is not the dull subject they think it is. Economics is actually a fascinating subject, extremely relevant to their worlds. It is also one that will be useful to them throughout their lives. This will give them the motivation they need to become driven, encouraging them to improve themselves.

He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, from Murdoch University, a Masters of Education from Monash University, Australia as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore.

Our Approach to diversified learning

Diligence

"Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." - Abigail Adams

The Economics syllabus is indeed no walk-in-the-park. It is both extensive in depth as well as breadth. Mastering the content is however a crucial first step. Thus, the approach at JC Economics Education Centre directs students to fully and truly comprehend the syllabus first. This is done through summary notes and constant reinforcing of concepts during lessons.

Another thing students should always remember is that questions may come in various forms, often unexpected ones, but once they have a strong foundation, that is all they need to answer them. Students often panic when they see unfamiliar questions, but forget that Cambridge examiners are out to test them, not to pose impossible challenges.

Independence

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea." - Antoine de St. Exupery

Students have to face the examination by themselves at the end of the day. They are thus taught to be independent, to develop skills that will serve them well under different contexts rather than to memorise and regurgitate answers.

Students must also practice independence to a certain degree when it comes to the learning process. They need to take initiative to continue drilling themselves outside of tuition time, to ensure that they can absorb even more.

Direction

"The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to see." - Alexandra K.Trenfor

The road ahead is easier when the student knows how to advance. Advice given includes common errors that should not be repeated, key words and phrases that signify question requirements as well as reminders to link the question to its context. These advices will guide students to think in a focused and efficient manner, helping them to process information in a quick manner under time-constraints.

Appreciate

"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." - Aristotle

Students are led into the beautiful world of Economics. Instead of a monotonous, dry subject, students will find themselves enthralled by its relevance and ingenuity. When students finally find Economics captivating, they will themselves want to excel in it. This will also help them go beyond dealing with Economics on a purely academic basis. They are taught to also engage with it in terms of their daily lives, such as how the exchange rate is related to consumers’ preference for traveling.
